Making straight hair curly is not a new hair style idea. Women in ancient Egypt coated their hair in mud, wound it around wooden rods and then used the heat from the sun to create the curls. Waves that won't wash out are a more recent innovation. Modern perms were pioneered by A F Willat, who invented the "cold permanent wave" technique in 1934. Since then, improved formulations and ever more sophisticated techniques have made perm the most versatile option in hair style.

How Hair Perm works

Perm works by breaking down inner structures in your hair and reforming them around a curler to give a new shape. Hair should be washed prior to perming as this causes the scales on the cuticles to rise gently, allowing the perming lotion to enter the hair shaft more quickly. The perming lotion alters the Kertin and breaks down the sulphur bonds that link the fibre like cells together in the inner layers of each hair. When these fibres have become loose, they can be formed into a new shape, when the hair is stretched over a curler or a perming rod. Once the curlers or rods are in place, more lotion is applied and the perm is left to develop to fix the new shape. The development time can vary according to the condition and texture of the hair. When the development is complete, the changed links in the hair are re-formed into their new shape by the application of a second chemical known as the neutralizer. The neutralizer contains an oxidizing agent that is effectively responsible for closing up the broken links and producing the wave or curl permanently.

The type of curl that is produced depends on a number of factors. The size of the curler is perhaps the most important as this determines the size of the curl. Generally speaking the smaller the curler the smaller and therefore tighter the curl, whereas medium to large curlers tends to give a much looser effect. The strength of lotion used can also make a difference, as can the texture and type of hair. Hair in good condition takes a perm much better than hair in poor condition and fine hair curls more easily than coarse hair.

After a perm it takes 48 hours for the keratin in the hair to harden naturally. During this time the hair is vulnerable to damage and must be treated with care. Resist shampooing, brushing, vigorous combing, blow drying or set ting, any of which may cause the perm to drop. Once hair has been permed it remains curly and shaped the way it has been formed, although new growth will be straight. As time goes by the curl can soften and if the hair is long its weight may make the curl and the wave appear much looser.

Home Versus Salon Hair Perm

Perming is such a delicate operation that many women prefer to leave it in the hands of experienced, professional hair dressers. The advantages of having hair permed in a salon are several. The hair is first analyzed to see whether it is in fit condition to take a perm; colored, out-of-condition, or over-processed hair may not be suitable. With a professional perm there is also a greater choice in the type of curl - different strengths of lotion and different winding techniques all give a range of curls that are not available in home perm.

Home Rules For Perm Hair Style

If you do use a perm at home, it is essential that you read and follow the instructions supplied with the product. Remember to do a test curl to check whether your hair is suitable and check to make certain you have enough curlers. Stack perm give curl and volume to one - length hair cuts by means of different sized curlers. The hair on top of the head is left unpermed while the middle and ends have curl and movements. Weave perms involve perming certain sections of hair and leaving the rest straight to give a mixture of texture and natural looking body and bounce, particularly on areas around the face such as the fringe.

Two Types of Female Orgasms

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about female orgasms is that they are all created equal. The truth is that not all orgasms are the same: they may all be equally pleasurable but they are generally arrived at through different means.

Basically, there are two types of female orgasms: vaginal and clitoral. In this chapter, we're going to briefly discuss both types. This will provide you with some background that you'll need when we can begin experimenting with orgasm-producing techniques a little later in the book.

Vaginal Orgasm

As you'll recall from the first chapter, this type of orgasm was the only type Freud and other men of his time felt to be legitimate types of sexual pleasure for women to experience. Unfortunately for women, only about 20% can receive an orgasm through vaginal stimulation alone. The other 80% need something a little extra.

Before we get into that, let me explain exactly what we mean by vaginal orgasm. A vaginal orgasm occurs solely because of stimulation of the vagina. That stimulation is usually in the form of the thrusting of the male penis during vaginal intercourse.

The reason most women do not receive an orgasm just from penetration is that the vagina is not a highly sensitive area. This is actually a good thing. Remember that the vagina is not just used for sex but also for delivering babies. If the inside walls of the vagina were made up of concentrated nerve endings like we find in the nipple, the clitoris, or the penis, then childbirth would be even more difficult for women.

In fact, only the first two inches of the vagina are sensitive at all. So why do some women have orgasms solely from vaginal stimulation? The answer is they probably aren't. Women who report vaginal orgasms benefit from their anatomy. In some women, the labia minora are formed in such a way that vaginal penetration actually causes the labia to rub against or gently pull on the clitoris. This, not vaginal stimulation, is leading to the orgasm in most cases. Technically, however, this would still be considered a vaginal orgasm because there is not direct stimulation of the clitoris.

Another reason why some women report having vaginal orgasms is that the shape of the penis and their preferred position allow for stimulation of the G-spot. Because the G-spot is linked to increased pleasure and may also induce orgasms, this is another possibility worth considering.

The bottom line here though is that vaginal orgasms are not common. Men and women need to realize that penetration is often not going to be enough to accomplish the goal. The good news is that gives both partners an excuse to experiment with some new things, including some we'll discuss later in the book.

By far the most common way for a woman to regularly reach orgasm is through direct or indirect clitoral stimulation. Before we just into that subject, I think it may help to share with you some information about the clitoris.

The clitoris is located just by the vaginal entrance and behind the labia minora. In most women, it is a small nub of flesh which contains a high concentration of nerve endings which make it highly sensitive. It is often covered by a clitoral hood. Many people don't realize that only a small portion of the clitoris is actually visible. The remainder of the organ is surrounded by the rest of the reproductive system and extends all the way to the bottom of the pubic bone.

Two things are particularly interesting about the clitoris. First, all female mammals have a clitoris. This is interesting because the sole purpose, at least according to biologists, of the clitoris is sexual pleasure. That would seem to mean that humans aren't the only ones who enjoy the way sex feels.

Second, the clitoris is made from the same material as the penis. In fact, in men the clitoris becomes a full-fledged penis after the embryo is exposed to testosterone in the womb. Just like the penis, the clitoris fills with blood and becomes erect during sexual arousal. The clitoral hood is essentially the same as the foreskin of a penis.

The only real difference between a clitoris and a penis – besides location in the body – seems to be that the penis is also used for urination while the clitoris is not.

With that said, its important to realize that the clitoris is really similar in size to the penis, even though most of it cannot be seen. Vibrations through the pelvic region caused by intercourse could stimulate the nerve endings in the unseen part of the clitoris as well and this can also cause orgasms.

What many people don't realize about the clitoris is that the penis alone usually cannot stimulate it. Because of its position in the woman's body, the ability of the penis to provide rhythmic stimulation to the clitoris is extremely difficult. That means traditional intercourse usually needs to be coupled with clitoral stimulation.

The question is how does one engage in clitoral stimulation. Some male partners take the approach that the women should be responsible for the stimulation themselves, which has always seemed a bit unfair to me since the woman is providing him with the stimulation he needs to reach orgasm. However, this is one way to deal with it.

Another method is by, what I like to call multi-tasking. Multi-tasking basically means the man does more than one thing at the same time. For example, he may be penetrating the vagina while also stimulating the clitoris in one way or another (we'll discuss those ways a little later). If the couple wants to achieve orgasm at or near the same time, this is clearly the best option.

Other couples I've met with have resorted to an alternative approach. One person reaches orgasm at a time. Depending on how each person best reaches orgasm, this may be a possibility but it's usually not the most satisfactory approach.

The best thing about clitoral orgasms is that they can be achieved in many different ways. Because the entire area is highly sensitive, experimenting with these types of orgasms can also add some interest and spice to sexual relationships which may have become less enthusiastic over time.

And the key is experimenting because different women prefer different types of clitoral stimulation. While some prefer direct stimulation, others find it uncomfortable and prefer to have the area around the clitoris stimulated instead. Women who have masturbated will generally have a much better idea of what type of stimulation they prefer than women who have not.

Before we close this chapter, let's talk about what happens during a clitoral orgasm. As I mentioned above, the clitoris feels up with blood and becomes erect like a penis. This means its usually easier to spot when a woman is aroused. Because the clitoris does not need to be erect for sexual intercourse to occur, clitoral orgasms will only happen if the woman is aroused properly. That means some type of foreplay is generally a requirement. When the clitoris is stimulate repeatedly, it becomes more engorged with blood and this further heightens its sensitivity. With another stimulation a point is reached when all of the tension in the area must be released and this point is considered the orgasm.

Myth 4: Some women just can't have orgasms.

While there are a percentage of women who have never had an orgasm, there is no evidence to suggest some women are incapable of having orgasms. There are two reasons why some women have not had orgasms in their lives. The first is that for whatever reason they have never masturbated. Masturbation is often a woman's first orgasm experience. The second is that they simply are not receiving the proper type of genital stimulation. Clitoral stimulation is needed by most women to have an orgasm. Without that stimulation, it most likely isn't going to happen. There are some women who have psychological blocks when it comes to experiencing sexual pleasure. This may be the result of any number of past events in their lives, but even that does not mean they are physically incapable of having an orgasm. If they worked through those problems, they would be able to engage in orgasm-producing intercourse just like any other woman.

Myth 5: Women take longer to reach orgasm than men.

This is another common myth which has not been supported by research. The reason people believe this is that they don't understand the female arousal pattern (we'll discuss this later in the book). Women's arousal patterns are much different than men's and, as a result, they are physically prepared for intercourse later than men are. The time from optimal arousal to orgasm is pretty much identical for both men and women. The difference is in how long it takes to reach that level of arousal. Because men often don't know how to help their partners get to that point, it does seem to take longer. Once that's changed, however, men find their partners reach orgasm more quickly and even have multiple orgasms in quick succession.

Myth 6: Women should only reach orgasm through vaginal intercourse.

This is definitely not true but it's a myth that has caused us to take women's sexual needs for granted for a long time. This myth actually started with Sigmund Freud, the developer of psychoanalysis, who had recognized that women could easily reach orgasm through clitoral stimulation. Freud dismissed this type of stimulation as juvenile and believed it was important for women to become more sexually mature by focusing only on vaginal stimulation to reach orgasms.

The problem is that the vagina was not designed for orgasms. It does not have the concentrated nerve endings that one finds in the clitoris or in the head of a penis, for example.

As a result of Freud's determination, women who could not reach orgasm through vaginal intercourse were considered to have some type of psychological impairment. All sorts of methods were devised in an attempt to “liberate” women from their reliance on the clitoris for sexual pleasure. Only in recent decades has society begun talking openly about the women's right to enjoy sex and to reach orgasm in whatever manner worked for her.

Myth 7: Only women fake orgasms.

Even though this book is about female orgasms, I think its important for both men and women to realize that orgasms are not going to happen during every sexual encounter. About one-fifth of men admitted that they have faked an orgasm with a partner. Their reasons for faking are the same as women's: they don't want their partners to be disappointed. Orgasms don't always come easily in a partnership. Sure, when we masturbate we can probably get off every time because we know our bodies and we know what works. Our sexual partners have to learn these things over time and, most importantly, with our help. Again, faking orgasms is not the answer for either sex. It just complicates the issue and prevents both partners from having a truly fulfilling sexual encounter.

Myth 8: Men just care about their own pleasure, not their partner's.

This myth was probably true at some point in the past but today more men are worried about their role as lovers and want to give their partners a great experience just as much, or even more, than they want to have a great experience.

The reason this myth persists is the same reason I wrote this book. Men don't understand how female orgasms work or how to achieve them. They don't learn it in sex education classes, and most of their fathers wouldn't be able to tell them even if they did ask.

What makes this worse is that many women feel that men should instinctively know how to get them off. That's just not the way it works. For one, each woman's body is different so what worked with one partner may not work with another.

Each partner needs to communicate with the other person about what feels good and what helps them achieve orgasm. In an honest, caring relationship, these types of communications should be able to take place.

What You Should Remember

Remember as you move into the following topics that much of what you may have known about female orgasms is not true. Only once you move beyond these myths will you truly be able to reach that level yourself or help your partner reach that level.

The most important first step you and your partner must make is to have open communication about your sexual relationship. We'll talk about this more later in the book but keep in mind that good sex does not begin in the bedroom. It begins with talking, getting to know one another, developing trust, and feeling comfortable enough to be completely open with the other person. Truly amazing sex is not possible without these ingredients.

Most women described two parts of the orgasm: the physical and the psychological sensations. Physically, many women feel pleasant contractions throughout their pelvic region. These contractions are caused by the blood returning to the body and the blood vessels narrowing again. One woman described these contractions as “ripples of pleasure.”

While the physical sensation seems to be wonderful, many of the women I’ve discussed with paid more attention to the psychological sensation. Immediately after the orgasm, women report feeling completely relaxed and stress free as if all of the tension in their body has suddenly been released. They also talk about overwhelming feelings of peacefulness. In fact, many women claim that orgasms help them to get a more restful night of sleep, particularly when stress has been interfering with their sleep patterns.

The physical sensations of the orgasm usually last between 10 to 30 seconds. The psychological sensations can last as long as an hour or more, depending on the environment.

When it comes to female orgasms, there are technically two types: vaginal and clitoral. The truth is that almost all female orgasms, even those supposedly resulting solely from vaginal stimulation, originate with the clitoris.

So what does that mean for lovers? First, it means that if you have not yet discovered the clitoris in yourself or in your partner, then that should be your first task. The second task is to start discussing what kind of clitoral stimulation works best. If you don’t know now, then by all means begin experimenting.

I should also mention that more recent research is indicating that at least in some women both vaginal and clitoral stimulation is needed to provide a so-called “complete” orgasm.

Most of those times do not lead to the next level, however.

* The female body responds to this stage in very specific ways. Let's go through some of those physical signs of excitement:

* Her nipples become erect

* Her vagina starts becoming lubricated

* The inner parts of her vagina begin to expand

* Her breasts may even increase in size if she becomes highly aroused

* These are not the only physical signs, but these are probably the ones you or her may notice. Notice that during this early stage, her vagina is already becoming lubricated. Many men have the mistaken notion that this is a sign that a woman is ready to engage in intercourse. That is not the case. A lubricated vagina only means a woman is aroused. All of these signs do suggest, however, that her body is preparing for the possibility of sex.

* Stage 2 – Plateau

* This second stage does not occur as frequently as the arousal or excitement stage. In fact, most incidents of arousal never reach this level. So when does a woman reach this level? Well, she will require more physical stimulation. Foreplay, for example, will help her move to this stage, so does increased fantasizing.

During this stage, sexual tension inside her body is growing.

* This stage is also accompanied by more physical signs. A few of those signs are listed below:

* Breasts may increase noticeably in size

* The vagina swells and the vaginal opening begins to narrow

* The clitoris becomes more erect

* Her heart beat may increase noticeably

* The color of the labia minora will change from pink to either red or wine-color

* This final physical sign is very important. Researchers have found that if the color-change does not occur, then women rarely have an orgasm.

* About one-half to three-fourths of women also experience what is termed a “sex flush” on parts of their body. The increased blood flow to the skin sometimes gives the appearance of a flush over the chest or other parts of the body.

* During the plateau stage, the woman's body is becoming ready for intercourse. Only near the end of this stage is she physically ready for vaginal intercourse.

* Stage 3 – Orgasm

* All of those women who fake their orgasms end up continually jumping from the second to the fourth stage of sexual response. After her body is truly ready for intercourse and if she is receiving the proper stimulation – usually clitoral – then it does not take long for her to reach the third stage.

* Below are some of the physical effects your partner will experience during this stage. Some of these should be noticeable by you and a couple are impossible for her to fake, so if you really want to know whether you are making her climax or not you just need to pay attention to the physical signs.

* Muscle contractions – Intense muscle contractions through the pelvic area will occur during the orgasm. A woman can have three to fifteen of these contractions depending on the strength of her orgasm. She may also experience muscle contractions in other parts of the body as well.

* Most women's bodies become temporarily rigid at the highest point of their orgasm. This lasts for only a moment, but its something you may notice.

* The “sex flush” is another indicator of orgasm. At this stage, it becomes brighter and more noticeable. It may also have spread to other areas of her body.

* Another tell-tale sign of orgasm in some women is ejaculation. Some women do ejaculate after an orgasm.

* Although you won't be able to see this, an orgasm can be detected by looking at a woman's brain wave patterns. There is a clear difference.

* Stage 4 – Resolution

* This is an interesting stage because what happens during it depends on what did not happen before or what is continuing to happen. For example, if a woman does successfully complete the third stage then she may be able to have multiple orgasms.

We'll talk about that more a little later in this article.

* If a woman does not have an orgasm, then her body will begin to return to normal but it will take longer. Many women report physical discomfort in the pelvic area during this process.

* You should also keep in mind that after an orgasm a woman's breasts and nipples will be incredibly sensitive. In fact, they can be so sensitive that touching them is uncomfortable for her.

* After the last orgasm, the “sex flush” will disappear. * Also, your partner may experience heavy sweating, rapid heart beating, and/or heavy breathing.

* The resolution stage marks the end of the cycle for women.

* Multiple Orgasms & Sexual Response Cycle

* Multiple orgasms do happen in women. In fact, they are more common than researchers initially believed. Any time a woman has an orgasm she is capable of having a repeat if the right stimulation continues.

* What's interesting about multiple orgasms in women is that they do not have to repeat the entire cycle to gain another orgasm. Once they are in the area between the third and fourth stages, their bodies are highly orgasmic.

Other important considerations are how appropriate the colour is for the location, occasion, time of year, your age and of course, your natural colouring.

We are all influenced by colour every day, whether we realise it or not. If we're having a bad day and not feeling good about ourselves, we tend to automatically choose clothes in dull neutral colours like black, grey or brown because they match how we're feeling. Just as when we're happy and feeling great we will go for something a bit brighter.

Have a look in your wardrobe and see how many different colours you own. Do you have a veritable rainbow of outfits? Or are there just 1 or 2 colours that you wear a variation of all the time? Could you become the Victim of the Date Rape Drug?

Each month, more than ten women of all ages and backgrounds contact our Adoption Center with the same experience - they have been victims of a date rape drug and are now pregnant. Most of the time, these women do not know who the biological father is.

Rohypnol is becoming the drug of choice for would-be rapists. Most predators target unsuspecting victims by slipping these illicit drugs into beverages at parties, bars, nightclubs, and dances. Rape drugs have the power to make one drink feel like six or more.

Laura, a sophomore from Florida, was one such woman who called our center. Laura attended a private party off campus. She thinks that she was probably dancing when the perpetrator laced her beer. She only had one drink and started feeling sick; then her memory became foggy.

“I started feeling drowsy, really dizzy and confused about where I was. I went to the party alone, which was my first mistake.”

Laura has no memory of what happened for the next eight hours. She woke up half-naked in a back room of the club with bruises on her thighs. She suspected that someone may have had sex with her, but couldn’t remember any details. She was hung over for days afterward.

Laura blocked the whole incident from her mind and allowed a numbness to take over. Her grades fell, and she found her mind wandering in class. Six weeks later, she discovered that she was pregnant. Laura dropped out of college to have the baby and chose to have him adopted by a childless couple through our adoption center. “I needed to do something positive, and it wasn’t the child’s fault,” Laura said.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, “Date Rape” is one of the fastest-growing drug-facilitated sexual assault crimes in America today. A recent large study found that one in four college women reported being the victim of rape or attempted rape, and 84% of their assailants were boyfriends or acquaintances. Most victims remember nothing of the incident except the feeling of being violated. The same study found that one in four college men admitted to having used sexual aggression with women, and one in twelve admitted committing a sexual assault of some kind.

GHB, one of the most popular date-rape drugs, is sometimes added to punch or other open container drinks at fraternity parties, college functions and social gatherings. It is often given to female partygoers in hopes of lowering their inhibitions and facilitating a potential sexual conquest for the assailant.

The victims of this crime who contact our center are of all backgrounds and ages. Many are still in some shock over being pregnant and have little to share about the “father” of their child.

Rohypnol, another common date-rape drug, is not legal in the US. It is produced and sold by prescription in Europe and Latin America, then smuggled into the United States.

Rohypnol can often be dissolved in a beverage and is undetectable. In combination with alcohol, it can induce a blackout with memory loss lasting 8-24 hours. The drug takes effect after roughly ten minutes. Victims of the drug report feeling dizzy and disoriented, and some become nauseated.

By taking preventive measures to protect yourself and your friends, you can avoid becoming a potential victim.

Here are a few helpful tips for staying aware, alert and safe:

•Do not accept drinks from anyone you do not know well.
•If you are accepting a drink, make sure it-s from an unopened container, and that you open it yourself.
•If dancing, don’t leave your drink unattended. If your drink has been left unattended, toss it out.
•Consider buying a specially designed drug-testing coaster (see below) to test your drink for the drug. They are low-cost and a smart choice.
•If your drink tastes or looks different than it should, if it tastes "funny" or has residue in it, throw it away.
•Don-t go to parties alone.
•Assign a designated sober person when going out.
•Be observant to the behaviors and actions of your friends. Trust your instincts.
•Keep a charged cell phone with you in the event you have a problem and need help.

One answer to this problem is for women to empower themselves with prevention. Criminals look for weaknesses in women and prey on them because they are easy targets. There are a number of self-defense practices that can lessen the chance of being an easy target Most of the practices are common sense.

Here are 10 tips for avoiding crime.

1. Be alert. Keep your head up and be aware of your surroundings.
2. Vary your routines. Predictability makes you a more likely target.
3. Lock your home, car, and office. Locks are the first line of defense.
4. Make your home a tough target by using floodlights, motion sensors, a security system and dead-bolts.
5. Prevent car-jacking by keeping your doors and windows locked and check mirrors and blind spots when stopped. If you think your car is being approached, sound your horn and flash your lights.
6. Avoid car theft by turning the wheels when you park and locking your doors. Use an anti-theft device and never leave a spare key inside your car.
7. Be creative and think of unusual ways to protect yourself.
8. Stay informed of crime trends in your area and work.
9. Get involved with an organization or Neighborhood Watch.
10. Do not give up. Crime can be reduced with action.

In addition to the above safety tips, you might want to carry some sort of self defense product such as pepper spray, a stun gun, or a personal alarm. These devices are very effective in deterring an assailant.

The assailant may experience coughing and choking and there may be a small increase in blood pressure, heart rate and ventilation. It is very uncomfortable and there is pain associated with it. The popularity of pepper sprays has grown tremendously over the last few years due to the increase in violent crimes. Law abiding citizens are realizing that they have to depend on devices like this to protect themselves and their families.

It is estimated that at least 15,000,000 Americans now carry personal defense sprays, the majority of which are OC (oleoresin capsicum) sprays. OC is the active ingredient in pepper spray, which is derived from Cayenne peppers, the hottest peppers in the world. OC is a reddish-orange, oily liquid, insoluble in water. There are around 40 manufacturers of this type of spray, who offer various sizes, formulations and spray types.

Pepper sprays normally come in aerosol type containers, some as small as a tube of lipstick. Some are even small enough to attach to a key chain. Most of these non-lethal devices can be fired several times and have a range between 8 and 20 feet, depending on the model and size. The size of the unit generally determines its capacity.

The OC agent is dispersed by the aerosol in a number of spray patterns depending on the model.

Four models include:

Forced Cone – best for most situations. The fine mist sprays at a distance of 8-12 feet with minimum blowback on to you. Blowback however, can be a problem in a mild breeze and uncontrollable in a strong wind.

Broken Stream – very effective for hitting multiple targets and used in the dark. It can be fanned for covering wider areas and provides the heaviest blast of pepper, but the can will empty quicker. The range is normally 15-20 feet and not affected by breezes and winds as much as fog and cone sprays are.

Fogger – very good against multiple attackers and home use, due to the barrier effect of the fog. There can however be some blowback of pepper, which would contaminate you, especially if used outside in a strong wind. This would still be minimal compared to the amount the attacker would receive. Most foggers have a range of 15-20 feet.

Foam – very good blowback protection with immediate saturation, even in windy conditions. This thick, sticky foam works instantly on the attacker.

One of the misconceptions about pepper sprays is, that the higher the percentage, the hotter and better it works. In most cases this is not true, most of the best, fastest incapacitating sprays in the world are from 2-10%. The lighter the fluid, the faster it penetrates the membrane.

WHAT WILL PEPPER SPRAY DO TO AN ATTACKER?

When pepper spray is sprayed into someone's eyes and face, it irritates the skin, eyes and mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract or throat. Coughing and choking may be experienced. It is very uncomfortable and there is pain associated with it.

The end result is temporary incapacitation, mostly due to not being able to see. People are too preoccupied with the blinding and painful experience to even attempt to do anything violent to you. If you can imagine a really bad case of sunburn on your face, a burning sensation in the back of your mouth and very hot and sore eyes – you will have some idea of the effects that pepper spray will have on your attacker.

IS PEPPER SPRAY LEGAL?

Pepper spray is used by many law enforcement agencies because it is more effective than tear gas and Mace™ and because it does not cause direct permanent harm.

However, there are still many areas and countries where its use by the general public is restricted. It is also a crime to carry pepper spray on a commercial aircraft. Check for restrictions in your locality before purchasing pepper spray.

HOW SHOULD PEPPER SPRAYS BE USED?

If you have to use your pepper spray in self-defense, make sure that you have some distance between you and your attacker if possible (you don't want the spray to affect you). Aim the spray at the eyes and face, then release a 1 to 2 second burst of spray. After you have done this move away, but continue to watch the attacker carefully. By watching the reactions of your attacker you will be able to tell if a further burst of spray is required. REMEMBER spray and move, spray and move. Once the attacker has been incapacitated seek help and call 911.

SHELF LIFE AND TESTING

Most pepper sprays have a shelf life of 3-4 years although some expire after two years. The expiry date should be marked on the canister. Any use of the spray beyond the expiry date is HIGHLY unadvisable.

The electrical shock that emits from the unit will not pass from the person being stunned to the person doing the stunning. The effect is localized only in the affected area and does not pass through the body. Even if you or the attacker is wet or standing in water, you will not get shocked. Stun Guns are non-lethal self-defense products.

Only take what cash you think you will need. Take only the credit cards you are most likely to use. If you do not need a camera or a camcorder, don’t take one with you. Limit the possessions you carry with you.

If you carry a purse or wallet, keep it where you can feel it, like inside of your jacket or pants pocket. Check to see if it is still there on a regular basis. If you are carrying a bag, strap it across your chest and hold on to it, but try not to look overly cautious. Always keep the opening or the zip part towards you. Never leave your bag unattended. If you have a backpack on, be extra cautious. Keep your cell phone out of sight as well, preferably in a zipped pocket. Watch out for pickpockets. They are watching every move you make.

Always be aware of your surroundings and appear relaxed. Pickpockets like busy streets and crowded places. If someone bumps into you, it could be a pickpocket. If this happens check and make sure you still have your possessions with you, but do not act too obvious.

If something has been stolen from you go to the nearest police station or call the police. Most ATM robberies occur at night between 8:00 PM and midnight. ATM robbers are usually males under 25 years of age and usually work alone. ATM robbers usually wait nearby for a victim to withdraw cash. Most ATM robbery victims are women and were alone when robbed.

Most claim that they never saw the robber coming. Most ATM robbers use a gun or claim to have a concealed weapon when confronting the victim and demanding their cash.

Here are some tips that can make the ATM process safer:

Use ATM machines in well-lit, high-traffic areas. Don't use ATM machines that are remote or hidden behind buildings, pillars, walls, or away from public view. Beware of obvious hiding places like shrubbery or overgrown trees. ATM robbers like to have the element of surprise and no witnesses.

Robbers like good escape routes such as nearby freeway on-ramps or high-speed thoroughfares.

Choose an ATM that looks and feels safe, even if it is a couple of miles out of your way. Try and limit your use to daylight hours. Try to rake someone with you if you have to go after dark. When you drive up to an ATM, look around the area for any suspicious persons. If you see anyone suspicious standing nearby or sitting in a car, drive away. When you approach an ATM on foot be prepared and have your access card ready.

Memorize your personal PIN number to prevent loss and speed the transaction. After inserting your card and your PIN number keep an eye out behind you. Never accept an offer to help or request for help from a suspicious male ahead of you at the machine. If anyone suspicious or seemingly dangerous approaches terminate your transaction and leave immediately, even if it means running away and leaving your ATM card in the machine. First, tell the suspicious male in a loud, firm voice to "back-off" and leave you alone. This is designed to startle the person and give you time to get away. When you receive cash from the machine immediately put it away, take your card from the machine and walk away.

If you use your car at a drive-up ATM machine the same rules apply. Keep the car in gear, with your foot firmly on the brake, while using the ATM machine. Keep a close eye on your rear and side view mirrors during the transaction. Robbers almost always approach from the rear driver’s side. If you see anyone approaching, drive off even if it means leaving your ATM card behind. If an armed robber confronts you, give up your money without hesitation. The cash is not worth serious injury or death. Get to a safe place and immediately call the police.

Do not use the machine if the lights around the ATM are not working.

Avoid ATM machines adjacent to obvious hiding places.

Have your card ready and leave quickly. Do not count your cash in public.

Beware of offers for help from strangers during an ATM transaction.

Don't fight with or attempt to follow the robber.

Drive or walk to a safe place and immediately call the police.

These tips can save your life.

The best of yours is often not the result of only the hard work but also the attire and presentation that adds up to it the color that will assure the success you want to achieve. So dress play a very important role in our professional life also.

1.The standard job interviewing attire for women is a conservative dark navy or gray skirted wool blend suit. Job experts and employers seem split on the notion of pants suits, so a skirted suit is a safer choice.

2.Skirt length should be a little below the knee and never shorter than above the knee -- no night club attire here. Avoid wearing a dress (unless accented with a jacket). Blouses should be cotton or silk and should be white, or some other light color. Shoes should be low-heeled.

Does Shaving Set A Fire In Your Armpits?

Unless you live in France or some other foreign country, where it's accepted that females aren't shaving their armpits, it's kind of an unspoken rule that once you have hair in your armpits, you need to start shaving it.

At least in western societies, females are considered uncouth or even unkempt/unclean if they're not shaving their armpits.

Just consider the type of negative press any female well known in the media gets if/when it's revealed she's not shaving her armpits. Remember that shot of Julia Roberts with her arm raised exposing a tuft of dark hair? No matter how much we adore Julia - On some level, this tarnished her "clean" image.

You may disagree with this and you may even be justified to take exception to society dictating how you look, but the truth remains that if you aren't shaving your armpits, you're a bit of an outcast.

I don't know about you, but I believe there are much more important issues to deal with, like stopping the use of animals for testing cosmetic products, protecting children from abuse, preventing domestic violence of all types, caring better for our elderly citizens, right down to cleaning up and preserving our planet, to name a few ... That are much more important than whether or not I have to be shaving my armpits.

I have a good friend who often reminds me, "Choose your battles wisely". Which means we all need to decide what issues are really important enough to fight for. Frankly, not shaving my armpits is not one of them.

Politics aside - It remains that shaving our armpits is a "necessary evil", if you will, of living in this privileged society.

So - The issue becomes, what's the best way of removing hair from our armpits?

I haven't heard it recommended that females use a depilatory to remove under arm hair. Probably because the chemicals are too harsh for this sensitive skin and there's a rumor that these chemicals can be easily absorbed in this area.

Nor have I heard about females having their armpit hair waxed. And honestly, I have to plead ignorance as to why not. There are probably a host of females who are having it done, I just haven't come across any information about it in my research.

That brings us back to shaving our armpits.

And while that sounds simple enough, as with most things, there's a catch.

It's called a wet razor. The shaving tool introduced to me when it came my time to start shaving my armpits.

Unfortunately, no one instructed me about the proper ways to start shaving my armpits with a wet razor, so the majority of my life I just suffered the fire under my arms for the first couple of days after shaving.

One thing I don't understand - In my research, I've seen it suggested, repeatedly, that you can use a white stick deodorant to limit skin abrasions after shaving. Yeah right -

It's a well known fact, (and common sense should tell you), and if all else fails - Just read the back of any deodorant ... The last thing you want to do after, "scraping", your skin raw with a razor is apply a strong, chemical based substance.

Hello ...

Instead, just dust your armpits with a talc free powder, or maybe a little cornstarch. Both of these work great on a baby's bottom to prevent diaper rashes, so you know they'll work to put out the fire of shaving your armpits.

Better yet - You could do some research and find out about newer, safer shaving tools to help you stop setting a fire when shaving your armpits.

I haven't had a fire from shaving my armpits for years. And let me tell you - What a relief.

The reason: over-the-counter hair coloring products have given consumers the impression that hair color is easy and extremely affordable. One look at a professionally-colored model on a commercial or glossy magazine page, and many people clamor to the closest drug store to purchase a $5 box of color with the hopes of receiving a $50 salon look.

The results are often disastrous, and it can take hundreds of dollars to correct a hair color problem that could have been prevented with just a tiny bit of knowledge and planning.

The most common problem seen with hair coloring at home and in salons is choosing a hair color that is too light for the natural shade of hair. Realistically, color can only lighten hair beautifully by a few shades. If you go any lighter than a few shades, you need to choose a high-lift product such as bleach or a professional highlighting system. Failure to do this often results in hair color that is much too brassy or even orange.

Word to the wise: high-lift hair coloring should only be performed by professionals. The controlled chemicals used in the process, if used incorrectly, can result in irreparable damage and/or chemical burns on the scalp and skin.

Another hair color mistake that is seen quite often is choosing a color that is too dark. Extremely dark hair color can be the most challenging to correct because dark color can actually stain the cortex (inner layer) of the hair, making it almost impossible to lighten. Again, avoid choosing hair colors that are more than a few shades darker than your own to prevent a costly cortex stain.

When it comes to choosing the right shade of hair color to use, pick tones and shades that flatter your skin tone. Choose warm shade of hair color (reds and warm browns) if you look best in warm-colored clothing such as reds, pinks and oranges. Choose a cool shade (beige, pale blonde highlights and neutral colors) if you look best in blues and greens.

As you can see, just a little bid of planning and knowledge can save you from costly hair coloring disasters. And by making an informed decision before you purchase hair color, you will not only save money, you will also save your hair from needless damage.

Hair color is a chemical, and every time you chemically process your hair, you damage it to some extent. The damage can be minimal, as is usually the case with high-end professional hair coloring systems, or can be extreme. And each time you use hair color to correct a problem, you are damaging your hair even more.

Here are just a few tell-tale signs that your hair has been over processed with hair color and other chemicals.

" The hair is limp and dull, and no amount of styling can bring back its luster and bounce.
" The hair color has faded dramatically, and you are left with brassy and banded hair color. (Banded hair color is evident by the sudden change of hair color along the hair shaft. For example: the hair may be dark until about 2" from the scalp where it turns a brassy orange.)
" The hair is extremely dry and brittle. When it is wet, it is almost impossible to comb it without causing breakage.

You can avoid damage to your hair caused by hair coloring by taking the same precautions recommended for choosing the right hair color. Choosing the right hair color reduces the amount of color applications, therefore, reducing the chances of your hair becoming over processed.

Make up is one of those things that us girls just CAN'T live without. Billions of dollars a year are spent on everything from foundation to lip gloss. There are so many kinds of makeup on the market that it can get a little confusing trying to decide which make up will make us look our very best.

Last year I decided that I would try the Bare Minerals make up by Bare Escentuals. I had seen the infomercials on TV and thought, hey; I'll give it a try and see what I think.

So, here's my review of their make up.......................I love it!

But let me count the ways!

1. First, I love how easy it was to pick a color to match your complexion. They make it so simple. You have 3 choices.... light, medium or dark. That's it! For example, the light kit includes light and fairly light foundation. It totally takes the guesswork out of picking the right foundation shade. And speaking of foundations, they put a SPF of 15 into their make up.

2. It's so simple to use. You just sprinkle a little into the cap, swirl your brush in it, tap it off and buff all over your face.

3. You can put this make up on in less than 5 minutes.

4. It looks like you are NOT wearing any make up at all....but.........you look great! It's just natural looking. Not like some make ups that make you feel like you just put a mask on.

5. It doesn't have anything in it! Nothing but the minerals. No preservatives, talc, waxes, oils or fragrances. It's actually good for your skin.

6. It lasts a long time which makes it very economical.

7. You really can sleep in it. I have always hated to go to bed with make up on but with this you don't feel like you have anything on your face.

As far as what I don't like about it....................well, you just need to be careful when you sprinkle it into the cap because it can come out fast. But besides that, I really do love it.

Bare Minerals will definitely be my "bare essential make up" for sure.

Jeans That Fit: How to Find Them

We all own jeans and they truly are the main ingredient of any casual wardrobe. However, they are not all equal or equally flattering. We are not all born with the same shape, so, the style we wear will impact the way we look. Have you ever seen an outfit on one of your friends that looked spectacular but when someone else wore that same outfit it lost its pizzazz? That has to do with the body shapes of the two people and sometimes the color of the garment. Both women could be the same height and weight but have a totally different shape. The same holds true for jeans. Here are a few hints when trying to find jeans that will fit and look great on YOU.

Small flat behind:

If you have a small flat behind and your jeans tend to make you look smaller, choose a design with detailed pockets that are high and slightly smaller than those found on most styles. Pockets will drawn attention to the eye and will create the illusion of width and lift.

To add curves Wear low-rise jeans in a cotton-Lycra blend. The clingy fabric hugs the body and a contoured waistband will help create curves. Choose a pair that has been lightened at the thighs and knees to make legs look more shapely. Avoid standard boot cut jeans that have little shape.

To flatten a tummy:

Try a medium to high-rise (no higher than the belly button) in a dark color.

For the appearance of smaller thighs:

Stick to dark colors for sure and wear flared styles that will draw the eye downward and create balance. Don’t wear them too tight or too loose.

For the appearance if slim hips:

Do look for jeans without front pockets or jeans with slit pockets and stay away from front patch pockets. Buy dark colors with stitching that is the same color (or very close) as the fabric. Avoid light stitching and designs.

To prevent a gap at the waist:

If your hips are much larger than your waist then you will probably have this problem. What to do? Wear stretch denim jeans and stay away from crisp or heavy fabrics such as cotton.

To make your legs appear longer:

Wear a high-heeled shoe and flared jeans that will completely cover them.

Whether we like to admit it or not, the current trend for "bigger is better", particularly when it refers to the diamond engagement rings worn by celebrities, is having an impact on what we are buying.

According to Celeste Ohrens, from New York Diamond Traders, "In the six months following J.Lo's engagement to Ben Affleck, we sold more pink diamonds than we'd sold in the previous six years!"

And despite the fact that THAT engagement ring has been replaced with another equally stunning jewel, copies of J.Lo's six-carat pink diamond are still selling well at many Internet jewelers.

When Marilyn Monroe breathlessly purred "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" (as if we didn't already know!), I have no doubt women everywhere secretly coveted the baubles Ms Monroe wore, but such flamboyant displays of excess would have offended the sensibilities of any self-respecting 1950s homemaker.

Not so nowadays. We've come to expect the ultimate in quality and quantity, and if that equates to wearing a 3-carat diamond ring similar to that worn by our favorite celebrity, more power to us!

Whether celebrities are seen as the arbiters or slaves to all that is considered stylish, the engagement rings gracing the left hand of such stars as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Madonna and Ashley Judd attest to the fact that their choice of ring design is influencing (or is influenced by) current trends.

Jewelers like David Feinstein from Feinstein & Co, Boston, say "The hottest look in engagement rings at the moment is the revival of antique cut diamonds and we are trying desperately to meet demand", making Catherine Zeta-Jones's antique-style 10-carat marquise-cut diamond ring, Madonna's 3-stone Edwardian-style ring and Ashley Judd's antique pave-set diamond ring hot favorites when it comes to replication.

The size of the diamond is also influencing current styles, and according to the Diamond Information Center, the traditional one carat solitaire diamond engagement ring has now grown to three and four carats.

One only had to witness the jaw dropping display of jewels at this year's Oscars - some $40 million worth - to reinforce the notion that in the minds of most celebrities "bigger is better". Never mind that their cherished booty had to be returned to the vaults from whence they came next morning.

But our ever-increasing fascination with all things "bling" begs the question "What about the poor sucker who has to PAY for this excess?" The traditional measurement for any would-be suitor to determine how much he should be willing to part with for the engagement ring was arbitrarily set at three months's salary, which is fine if he's earning a healthy six-figure salary. But try telling Joe Schmo, whose monthly budget doesn't extend much beyond the local Thai take-out, that he's up for what could be many thousands of dollars, and you'll see his face (not to mention his wallet) crumble.

Which brings me to my final point. The value of your engagement ring is not simply measured in monetary terms. nor is it measured by whether your best friend's diamond is bigger, or whiter, or more extravagant. And it's certainly not measured by whether it looks just like J.Lo's most recent accessory (and I mean the ring, not the husband!)

Your engagement ring is a measure of the value of your relationship and what it means to both of you, now and in the future. It's a symbol of all that the two of you share, whether you're wearing a 2-carat rock or a dime-store copy.

Just remember, your local jeweler is probably a whiz at re-modelling, so you can always upgrade later!

Jewelry from 3000 BC Egypt to the 21st Century

Egypt

The use of gold jewelry can be dated back to Egypt 3000 BC. Gold was the preferred metal for jewelry making during ancient times. It was rare, it was easy to work with, and it never tarnished.

Magnificent bracelets, pendants, necklaces, rings, armlets, earrings, collars, and head ornaments were all produced in ancient Egypt, the land of the Pharaohs. In 1922 Howard Carter’s excavations led to the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb and many gold artifacts, all showing the art work of ancient Egypt.

Greece

In ancient Greece, gold beads in the shape of shells, flowers and beetles were very common. In Northern Greece beautiful necklaces and earrings have been excavated from burial.

By 300 BC the Greeks were using gems such as emeralds, garnets, amethysts and pearls. They also created colored glass stones and enamel stones. Carved agate cameos and gold filigree work were widely made.

Italy

The Italian Etruscans produced granulated textured gold work. They made very large, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. They were also known for producing hollow gold pendants that were filled with perfume. Even today the Italians are still known for the quality gold jewelry.

Rome

The Romans used 18 and 24 carat gold for their coins. Coinage gold was readily available so it was popular with craftsmen for decorative jewelry. Over 2000 years ago the Romans were using sapphires, emeralds, garnets, and amber in their jewelry. Europe.

During the 13th century the Medieval Sumptuary Laws were enacted which put a cap on luxurious jewelry and clothing. The town folk of France, banned from wearing girdles made from pearls or any other gemstone.

They were also banged from wearing gold or silver. Similar laws existed in England banning artisans from wearing gold and silver. These laws show how fine jewelry had spread beyond nobility to the town folk.

For as long as mankind has existed gems and jewels have been used as token of ones love for another. While many pieces of jewelry existed adorned with fine gems and made from precious metals, there was also some very good fake jewelry.

True gemstones and pearls originated in the east and they were bought mainly by the Italians. The Italian merchants then sold the jewelry to the Europeans.

High quality glass imitations were often used and sold with the intent to deceive. These high quality glass stones were often used in the Royal funeral robes and in children's jewelry.

Valued more than gemstones, were the flawless, round, natural white pearls. South India provided some of the finest pearls. The Italians were able to make quality imitation glass gems and pearls that could only be identified by a gemologist.

There is historical proof that recipes for false pearls existed as far back as 1300. White powdered glass was mixed with albumen and snail slime to produce imitation pearls.

Earrings and Dress Jewelry

During the 17th century woman always wore earrings, whether they were dressed or undressed. It was very acceptable to wear faux pearls and paste gem earrings during the day saving fine diamond jewelry and gem jewelry for evening attire.

Dress ornamentation decreased in size. Sleeves or skirts were often decorated with matching brooches.

During the 16th it was very fashionable to wear large quantities of pearls. Both jewelry to clothing accessories were adorned with pearls.

During the 17th century Jaquin of Paris patented a method of making fake pearls. Hollow blown glass balls were coated with varnish mixed with iridescent ground fish scales. The hollow balls were then filled with wax to strengthen them. This discovery made Paris the main producer of faux pearls for well over 200 years.

Paste is a compound of glass containing white lead oxide and potash. Paste jewelry was very common in the later part of the 17th century. The highest quality and most long lasting paste jewelry was produced after 1734 by Georges Strass.

Paris lead the production of faux gems [paste] and faux pearls. Just about any kind of fake gem could be made, including fake opals.

After 1760 the production of fake jewelery spread to London and to Birmingham. During the industrial revolution steel was produced in large quantities so it was easily available. It was ues for setting marcasite and jasper ware cameos. Glass and Wedgwood porcelain paste cameos were made in English factories and were also very popular.

The fashion from this era also included ornate shoe buckles of paste, steel and tin, elaborate paste jewel buttons, as well as semi precious for day wear.

Empire Jewelry

In 1804 Napoleon emerged as Emperor of France, resulting in a revival of jewelry and fashion as a new court of pomp. 'Joailliers' worked fine jewelry and 'bijoutiers' used less precious materials.

The members of the new French imperial family had the former French royal family gems re-set into the latest neo-classical style. The new trends soon found their way to Europe, particularly England. The main influence for design was the Greek and Roman.

Parures and Cameos

Parures were a matching suite of coordinating precious gems which could include a necklace, a comb, a tiara, a diadem, a bandeau, a pair of bracelets, pins, rings, drop earrings or and cluster stud earrings and possibly a belt clasp.

A full parure consisted of a minimum of four pieces. A demi parure consisted of three or less pieces. Both Josephine and Napoleon's second wife had magnificent parures.

Once Napoleon's cameo decorated coronation crown was seen, cameos became the rage. Cameos were carved from hard stone, conch shells and even from Wedgwood porcelain.

Victorian Jewelry

In 1837 when Queen Victoria came to the throne jewelry was romantic and nationalistic. It focused on European folk art, which later influenced the Arts and Crafts Movement. Until mid century most western jewelry came from Europe, with some jewelry being produced in North America and Australia.

Mass production of mid Victorian jewelry in Birmingham, Germany and Providence, Rhode Island resulted in lower jewelry standards. Victorian women rebelled when they saw some the poor quality of much of this machine made jewelry.

Woman rebelled by wearing no jewelry at all, or buying from the emerging artist craftsman. Some jewelers like Tiffany recognized a niche market and began to make fine jewelry of a very high standard, opening shops in main European cities.

Mourning Jewelry

During the Victorian era mourning jewelry was very fashionable. The initial months of mourning were unadorned by jewelry of any kind. As the mourning rituals increased, mourning jewelry developed as a fashion item. Queen Victorian wore a great deal of jet mourning jewelry after Prince Albert’s death.

Jet from Whitby, North of England was set into mourning pieces. All types of material that were black were used and almost all included a lock of the dead loved one's hair. Hair was also plaited, braided or twisted very tightly until it became hard and thread like.

Arts and Crafts Jewelry

During the 1870s the Arts and Crafts movement evolved as a reaction to mass produced shoddy goods and inferior machine made products which were a result of the industrial revolution.

William Morris and John Ruskin were both leaders of the arts and crafts movement in England. They promoted simple Arts and Crafts of designs based on floral, primitive or Celtic forms worked as wallpapers, furniture and jewelry.

The polished stones used in Arts and Crafts jewelry gave a medieval, simpler, gentler, tooled hand made look and feel to items.

Art Nouveau

The Art Nouveau followed the arts and crafts movement resulting in a new jewelry look. The movement began in Paris and its influence went throughout the Western world. Art nouveau jewelry had curves, sinuous organic lines of romantic and imaginary dreaminess.

It was very ethereal turning into winged bird and flower forms. French, René Lalique was the master goldsmith of the era of Art Nouveau producing exquisite one off pieces. Today, the Art Nouveau style is still admired, sought after, and copied.

Pearls

Various combinations of pearl necklaces come in and out of fashion with regularity so pearls too are a must. Today pearls are still a wardrobe essential. Both faux pearls and cultured pearls are very affordable today.

Since the opening of trade with China in the 1990s, many pearls are imported from China dropping the price to about 1/3 of what it was prior to China entering the market.

The Japanese have suffered disease in their pearl beds as well as facing competition and are finding it hard to compete with China's prices.

Pearl necklaces and pearl earrings can lift a complexion and bring light and radiance to the face taking years off a woman whatever her age. They have been a wardrobe staple for centuries, and a wedding attire tradition.

Cultured pearls have become very affordable, and faux pearls are very cheap and the quality can be excellent. Currently Pearls are a very “hot” fashion statement and with the modern twist of being interspaced on gold wire or floating on special synthetic cord they are essential to the millennium look.

Cocktail Jewelry

During the 1920s Lalique mass produced and designed high quality glass jewelry. Fake, or costume jewellery was sometimes then called cocktail jewelry.

Costume or Cocktail jewelry was greatly influenced by designers such as Coco Chanel, and Elsa Shiparelli as well as a host of other designers. These two designers were particularly known for encouraging clients to mix their fine jewelry and costume jewelry. Both designers offered imagination and fun and both often sported fabulous fakes.

In the late 1930s Napier of the USA was at the forefront of manufacturing fake cocktail jewelry offer glamour and escapism. Today, Napier still produces excellent contemporary costume pieces.

Hollywood Influence

By the 1940s and 1950s American culture was very dominant in Europe. The influence of movie films and the prominence of film stars set the fashion stage for womens make-up, hair and wardrobe.

People wanted copies of outfits and jewelry worn by the actresses. Women believed that the glamour of Hollywood would rub off on them if they dressed and looked like the glamorous Hollywood actresses.

During the Second World War metals were rationed, halting the production of fine jewelry. Quality costume jewelry picked up the now defunct fine jewelry market. Costume jewelry flourished becoming an acceptable alternative to fine jewelry. 1980's Television Influences Jewelry

During the 1980s with the evolution of glitzy television soaps such as Dynasty and Dallas, costume jewelry once again became a “hot” fashion statement. With over 250 million viewers, it didn’t take long for costume jewelry to be reborn.

Glitz and sparkle by day was not only acceptable, it became the norm. Earrings grew to an unbelievable size, as did other pieces of jewelry. By the 1990s this sparkly dazzling jewelry phenomena was dead, replace with tiny real diamond studs or a fine stud pearls.

21st Century Jewelry

For the 21st century women believe a mix is good. Fine jewelry combined with costume jewelry are wardrobe essentials. The sophisticated women of this century know what they want from their jewelry and how to wear it to make their fashion statement.

They recognize that costume jewelry can liven up their wardrobe. The types and quality of costume jewelry has grown enormously. Today one can purchase what is classified as fine costume jewelry which is usually plated at least seven times with 10 22 ct gold.

Swarovski crystal set in gold are common accessories, and cubic zirconium, man’s imitation diamond, can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of real diamonds allowing every women to add diamond styled jewelry to their wardrobe.

1. Fine, fine like a bottle of wine.

Is it your beloved’s birthday? If he enjoys a nice drink every now and then, present him with a bottle of what he likes (Hennessey, Remy Martin, Bacardi, Merlot.) A beverage he and his friends can get toasted off of when they celebrate.

2. The Love Letter.

10. Cook for him!

Swing by the Supermarket and get the ingredients to his favorite meal. Not sure how to make what he likes most? Stick to a dish everybody loves to eat: Lasagna. Spaghetti. Baked Ziti. He’ll love it, regardless!

These 10 tips may be simple, but the trick is to develop an element of surprise. Don’t mention anything, just bust out with it! The mystery behind the gesture is what intrigues him. Experiment with these ideas and come up with some of your own. The key is to have fun and use your imagination to keep him digging on you. True, a relationship requires a lot of maintenance; however, you’ve got to keep it fresh and sexy. Be unpredictable and exciting!

As Darius Lovehall states in the movie Love Jones, when couples say that the romance is gone, that’s not the case… “it’s because they’ve exhausted the possibilities.”

Guess what? I’m not the only 30-something woman left I know who's never had a bikini wax. The fact that I’m not the only one doesn’t surprise me but why did it take so long to have a waxing conversation with a good friend. The answer: I’ve always looked at personal grooming as something private. I’m someone who up until my 20’s referred to my vagina as a front bum.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no prude and no stranger to pain. I like to look and feel feminine and have my own beauty rituals including Venus razors, tweezing, indulgent moisturizers, foils, and the occasional manicure. I’ve gone through childbirth THREE times without drugs and was clearheaded enough to know that my hoo-ha was on display to the whole hospital staff including the cleaning person. You think that would have wiped out any modicum of modesty I had left. Wrong!

A bikini wax to me is like letting the world in on a secret that I think no one else knows about. (Maybe I need to out my demons and go to Pubicholic Anonymous…Hi my name is Sandra and I have pubic hair…). Perhaps someday I’ll reach the point where I’ll say to hell with it give me the works. We’re talking front to all the way back and everything in between. With infidelity on the rise, we have sorted out the top 10 ways on how to catch a cheating man without hiring a costly detective.
1. Set a trap. 99.9% of the time cheating men will cheat when their partner is out of town or when the cheater is traveling. Tell your partner you are leaving for the weekend and then wait and watch. If he doesn't come home all night, he could be at another woman's house or at a hotel. Otherwise, he may bring her to his or "your" house. Remember the old saying...."when the cat's away, the mouse will play." It's very true.

2. Monitor his cell phone. Note whether he always turns off his cell phone when he’s with you or if his returned calls to you are extremely delayed without verified reasons. If you have access to his cell phone bill, watch for repeated calls or calls of long duration and the times. Check his cell phone logs. Press the re-dial on the phone or *69. This is an effective way to find out who they’ve been calling.

3. Place a fake profile on-line. Set your partner up by placing a fake profile on-line and see if he takes the bait.

4. Get one of your girlfriends that he doesn’t know to hit on him with a recording device in her purse and listen to his response.

5. Be aware of any close platonic relationships. Most friends will not approve of the cheater's ways but will cover for them. Some friends will actually help the cheater by providing an alibi for the cheater. The cheater's friend will assist the cheater out of loyalty stemming from a friendship.

6. Make your bed. If you suspect your partner is bringing his affair to your home, make the bed a special way and make note if it’s not made identically to the way you left it when you return.

7. Monitor your partner’s driving habits for a month. Watch for increase in gas receipts and monitor the car's odometer to see if there are extra-unexplained miles on the car. Monitor the time they leave for work and the time they come home. By keeping a calendar and noting the times, this should help you establish a pattern. If your mate claims to be working late, check paycheck stubs to verify this overtime. Your partner explains a late return home as a result of having to drive out of town on business, but yet the mileage on the car indicates less than ten mile driven.

8. Check all credit card statements, ATM withdrawals, receipts and check stubs for any unusual transactions. Make note of any strange dates and times. Check income tax returns revealing unexplained travel and business expense deductions.

9. Place a GPS tracking device in the car. They are usually no larger than a pack of gum and will track anywhere his automobile goes but can be pricey. Make sure you research any legal ramifications before you decide to do this.

10. Ask him to take a lie detector test. Lie detector test have become affordable and available in most major cities. Write down 10 "yes" or "no" questions and ask your partner to take one. They are fairly accurate but I would not rely on this method alone.

If you have exhausted all other means of catching your partner, you can fake that you know information. For example, you could say something like "I know what you've been up to and I am going to give you the opportunity to tell me the truth now. However, if you lie to me, it will make things ten times worse." Act like you have proof, act serious, and give him overnight to "think about it." Many men will lie to the very end but if you are a good enough actress, you may get the information you are looking for.

Never accuse your partner of cheating unless you have concrete proof because the majority will lie and then simply cover their tracks better in the future. Have a non-violent plan as to what you intend to do if your suspicions are confirmed. Always keep a cool head and do not lose control over yourself. A woman's gut instinct is rarely wrong, so listen to yours.

Choosing A Hair Color According To Your Skin Tone

Have you ever seen a woman with a hair color you absolutely loved—you asked her what color it was, she told you and you went right out and bought the same color. You applied it according to directions—and your hair looked completely wrong. I’ve learned the hard way that unless I have similar skin tone to the woman wearing the color I love, I will save myself a lot of grief if I just complement her on her great color, and let it go.

It is not just a matter of finding a color that looks great on the box. Your skin tone, your eye color, and your natural hair color must be considered when you look for a hair color for you.

First, and most important, you need to determine whether your skin tone is warm or cool. The best way to determine this is to stand by a window and hold your inner arm next to a sheet of white paper.

Is your skin primarily tan, peachy or gold? Or does your medium skin have a greenish undertone? If you are brown-skinned, is there a gold or cinnamon undertone? If so, then your skin tone is warm.

Your eye color is probably green, hazel, golden brown, or red-brown. You might have gold or brown fleck in your eyes. Your natural hair color as a child could have ranged from a natural golden blonde, strawberry blonde to red, golden brown or a deep brown with gold or red highlights. As you gray, your hair probably has a yellow cast. These are attributes of warm skin people.

If your skin has a cool tone, your arm will appear bluish next to the white paper. Your skin will have a pink undertone. If your skin is brown it will be a deep brown or a black brown. Your eyes will be blue, gray, hazel with white or blue flecks, or very dark brown. As a child, your hair color could have been very pale blonde, or a darker blonde, or a medium to dark brown that did not look gold in the sun; or your hair would have been coffee-colored, or blue-black. Your hair, as it grays, turns white. These are all cool tones.

The trick to getting a hair color that looks good on you, is to stay with the skin tone God gave you. People with warm skin tones look best in warm colors. Cool skin tones look best with cool colors. Choosing a hair that does not complement your natural coloring will result in an unpleasant disharmony, no matter how pretty the color is on the box. If the natural undertone of your hair is warm, and you try putting a cool blue or violet-based hair color on it, it is somewhat like mixing yellow and blue. Your hair will probably have a greenish cast.

If you read the labels on the hair coloring boxes, most will give you a clue as to whether they are warm or cool colors. The word “ash” on a label means cool. As discussed in the previous paragraph, if your coloring is warm, don’t use an “ash”, or you may wind up getting green looking hair.

You can color your hair any color you would like. Blonde, red, brown, gray and black all come in warm or in cool tones. The safest way is to follow your skin tone and choose a color that goes with that tone. You can go lighter, darker, or intensify—just stay with the same tone.

The same goes for highlighting your hair. Warm-toned people lighten with pale gold, bright gold, russet, warm brown. Cool-toned people lighten with white, platinum, cocoa.

Perhaps you love to ski, read a book on the beach, go shopping or just take in an afternoon movie. Now that you're single, you don't have to feel restricted in doing only what your partner wants to do. Go out, have fun and start enjoying life again.

Spend more time with your family and friends. When you're in a relationship, it may be difficult to balance your time. Always remember that your family and friends will be there long after the separation and, after a breakup, they will be your support system and you will have great comfort in spending time with the ones who you love and who love you back.

Join a club or organization that interests you. Take up a hobby, participate in a good cause that can help others or just get out there and do something that you will find to be emotionally satisfying. When your mind is off of the breakup, you will start to heal a little every day.

Size Is Just A Number

No one has to know your secret in looking like you have lost a few pounds or why you have that smile on your face! Size is just a number that you can learn to live without and still be happy!

I was once ruled by a number on a little tag that hung inside my clothes. It was everything! It could make or break my day. I lived my life around it. If it went up I was devastated, and to bring it down was extremely difficult. I spent many years being controlled by this number! I once saw it shrink to a 6, only to slowly watch it rise again to 10, then 12, and then hover at 14.

One day as I was trying on clothes, I noticed that some clothes that were my exact size made me look larger, and then some clothes that were one size larger made me look smaller. This was very interesting to me. At this point in my life I begin to realize that size is just a number!
Being in the fashion business for years, I knew that the difference in the quality of clothes also makes a difference in the size of clothes. Less expensive clothes are cut smaller and cost less. Expensive clothes have a fuller cut and will probably allow you to wear a size smaller. Less expensive clothes will most likely give you a tight fit in your exact size, but will probably fit you perfectly one size larger than you are.

Suddenly I realized that size is just a number! If I wear whatever size looks best on me, that flatters the figure that I presently have, and makes me feel better about myself, then I have won the battle of the bulge. When I learned to forget about that “number” and just embrace the sensation of looking great, I truly began to enjoy life.

Besides, I’ve yet to have anyone throw me down and say, “Let me see the number on the tag in the back of your dress or else!” Looking great is the best revenge! Always remember; size is just a number!
